About the role
The Controls & Automation Engineer develops, maintains, troubleshoots and optimizes automation and control systems that support the manufacturing and assembly of automotive seating and overhead systems. The role improves equipment reliability, productivity, quality and operational efficiency through advanced automation technologies. It suits someone with hands-on experience in PLC programming, industrial automation, process improvement and manufacturing equipment integration.
Key responsibilities
- Continuous improvement: PFMEA, Kaizen, Lean, Poka-Yoke, 8D, root cause analysis, equipment efficiency and quality controls
- Engineering support: evaluate engineering changes, review electrical schematics and controls drawings, support equipment validation, commissioning and new line launches
- Controls and automation: program, troubleshoot and maintain PLC-controlled equipment, develop and optimize PLC programs, support HMI, industrial networks and connected devices
- Troubleshoot ControlLogix, ladder logic, structured text, barcode scanners, remote I/O, sensors, relays, VFDs, servo systems and motion controls
- Maintenance support: assist maintenance personnel, develop preventive maintenance procedures, train operators and production staff
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation or a related field preferred; Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology considered with relevant experience
- Minimum 4-5 years of experience in controls, automation or manufacturing engineering
- Experience in automotive or high-volume manufacturing and equipment startups strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex systems and reduce downtime
Required skills
- Allen-Bradley PLC platforms and Studio 5000
- PLC programming, troubleshooting and diagnostics
- Electrical schematics and controls drawings
- Preferred: FactoryTalk View SE/MES, vision inspection, robotics (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa), EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, Profinet, SQL, SCADA
