Controller / Director of Finance (Non-Profit)

About the role

The organization is a well‑established nonprofit seeking an experienced Controller/Director of Finance to provide strategic leadership for financial management. This senior position sits on the leadership team and partners with department heads to support long‑term planning, operational efficiency, financial sustainability and organizational growth.

Key responsibilities

• Direct all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting and cash‑flow oversight.
• Develop and maintain financial models to support operational and strategic decision‑making.
• Monitor financial performance and deliver timely analysis, recommendations and risk assessments to leadership.
• Oversee month‑end and year‑end close processes, journal entries, reconciliations and financial statement preparation.
• Manage banking relationships, investment accounts and liquidity planning.
• Lead the annual budgeting process in partnership with department heads.
• Coordinate external audits and assist with tax filings and regulatory reporting.
• Supervise administrative operations, employee benefits, payroll coordination, insurance programs and risk‑management initiatives.
• Support employee lifecycle processes and ensure compliance with employment regulations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Proven experience managing accounting operations, financial planning, budgeting and reporting.
• Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles and compliance requirements.
• Excellent analytical, organizational and problem‑solving abilities.
• High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective cross‑departmental collaboration.
