Controller (Construction Accounting)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead the finance function for a growing commercial general contractor in Houston. The role will manage a small accounting team, oversee all financial operations, and partner with executive leadership to ensure projects remain on budget and profitable.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee full‑cycle accounting, cash‑flow forecasting and monthly financial reporting.
• Manage the work‑in‑progress (WIP) schedule and apply percentage‑of‑completion accounting.
• Collaborate monthly with Project Managers to review job costing, budget variances and profit margins.
• Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and lien‑waiver processes.
• Maintain compliance and coordinate with bonding and insurance partners.
• Serve as the primary liaison for external CPA firms during audits and tax preparation.

Required profile

• 7+ years of construction accounting experience, preferably with a general contractor.
• At least 2 years in a Controller or similar leadership role.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA is a plus.
