Controller – Accounting Leader for Employee‑Owned Firm

About the role

This position is the senior accounting professional within a 100% employee‑owned organization. Reporting directly to the CFO and working closely with the Board, the Controller will own the full spectrum of financial reporting, month‑end close, and internal controls.

Key responsibilities

• Produce monthly financial statements and comprehensive reporting packages covering operating results, project performance, billing activity, utilization trends, and other key metrics.
• Analyze income‑statement and balance‑sheet variances, investigate unusual movements, and resolve discrepancies.
• Lead monthly and annual close processes, coordinate timelines, prepare and review journal entries, and reconcile general‑ledger accounts.
• Oversee balance‑sheet and bank reconciliations, maintain supporting documentation, and ensure timely resolution of outstanding items.
• Maintain the chart of accounts, manage deferred‑revenue records, and post recurring items such as overhead allocations and revenue‑recognition adjustments.
• Prepare and present financial health reports for leadership and board review, highlighting trends, risks, and performance indicators.
• Establish and enforce accounting policies, internal controls, and self‑audit practices.
• Serve as the subject‑matter expert for Deltek Vantagepoint, enhancing reports, dashboards, workflows, security settings, and automation.
• Identify and implement process‑improvement opportunities to increase efficiency and reporting quality.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting or a related field.
• CPA certification.
• 10+ years of accounting experience with full ownership of month‑end close.
• Leadership experience managing accounting teams.
• Industry experience in architecture, engineering, or construction.
