Controller - Accounting Function

About the role

Eudia, an AI-powered legal automation company backed by General Catalyst, is hiring a Controller to own the accounting function and build it for scale. This is a player-coach role: you will run the close, the audit and the controls for the entire business, consolidate and sign off on financials for international entities and business units, and lead and develop the accounting team while staying hands-on.

Key responsibilities

• Own the monthly, quarterly and annual close for the US business, build a repeatable close calendar and deliver monthly financial statements to leadership
• Consolidate and sign off on financials for international entities and business units, manage intercompany accounting, eliminations and foreign currency
• Set and own revenue recognition policy under ASC 606 for subscription, consumption and services revenue, write technical accounting memos and define policies for commissions, capitalized software, leases and the cost of revenue
• Review contract terms with Sales and Legal before signature
• Lead the annual audit, design and test internal controls, oversee tax compliance with external advisors and support government contract accounting
• Own equity administration (cap table, 409A valuations, stock-based compensation), prepare investor and board reporting and support fundraising and due diligence
• Hire and scale the accounting team, own the finance systems stack (ERP, billing, spend management, payroll integrations) and reconcile usage data to billing and the general ledger
• Use AI and automation to reduce manual work in the close, and oversee AP, billing, collections, payroll accounting and cash management

Required profile

• CPA with 10+ years of accounting experience, including Big Four public accounting
• Active CPA license
• Controller-level experience at a venture-backed SaaS company and experience building the controllership function from scratch at a startup
• Deep revenue recognition expertise for SaaS and AI consumption-based pricing under ASC 606
• Track record of owning the monthly close and leading external audits
• Experience consolidating multi-entity financials, investor/board reporting and equity management
• Experience implementing and managing modern finance systems, including ERP, usage-based billing and AI automation tools
• Collaborative, can-do attitude; based in the San Francisco Bay Area

Nice to have: government contract experience (FAR, GSA schedules) and SOX implementation or IPO readiness experience. Base salary of $230,000 to $275,000.
