Consumer Access Specialist - PRN Weekend Nights

About the role

AdventHealth Polk in Columbus, North Carolina is hiring a Consumer Access Specialist on a PRN basis for night and weekend shifts. The role covers patient registration, insurance verification, eligibility checks, payment collection and coordination with clinical and ancillary departments.

Key responsibilities

• Perform Medicare compliance reviews and issue Advance Beneficiary Notices of Noncoverage as needed.
• Create accurate estimates for patient financial responsibility and collect payments or set up payment plans.
• Coordinate with utilization management staff on pre-authorization issues and ensure patients have the right logistical information.
• Contact insurance companies to verify eligibility and benefits and obtain pre-authorizations within set timeframes.
• Register patients for all services accurately and minimize duplication of medical records.
• Collect demographic information from patients and confirm insurance details.
• Provide continuous coverage of assigned areas during shifts, arranging relief coverage as needed.
• Manage communication between clinical, ancillary and consumer access departments and document all patient and insurance conversations.
• Attend department meetings, provide PBX switchboard coverage and perform cashiering, collections and cash reconciliation.

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent (associate degree preferred).
• Bilingual English/Spanish.
• Customer service experience preferred; 1+ year of customer service, healthcare or revenue cycle experience preferred.
• Preferred certifications: Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) and Certified Revenue Cycle Rep (CRCR).

Required skills

• Working knowledge of Microsoft programs and familiarity with database programs.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology and understanding of insurance benefits.
• Knowledge of EMR systems and adherence to CMS, EMTALA and HIPAA guidelines.
