Consumer Access Specialist - Part Time Outpatient

About the role

AdventHealth Shawnee Mission is hiring a part-time Consumer Access Specialist for its outpatient setting. The role covers patient registration, insurance verification, payment collection and coordination with clinical and ancillary departments, working Monday to Friday from 12:00 to 5:30 pm.

Key responsibilities

• Perform Medicare compliance reviews and issue Advance Beneficiary Notices of Noncoverage as needed
• Create accurate estimates for patient financial responsibility and collect payments or set up payment plans
• Coordinate with utilization management on pre-authorization and contact insurers to verify eligibility and benefits
• Register patients for services and collect demographic and insurance information
• Provide coverage for assigned areas during shifts, arrange relief coverage and cover the switchboard as needed
• Manage communication between clinical, ancillary and consumer access departments and document patient and insurer conversations
• Perform cashiering functions such as collections and cash reconciliation

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent (associate degree preferred)
• 1+ year of customer service, relevant healthcare or revenue cycle experience preferred
• Bilingual English/Spanish
• Preferred certifications: Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) and Certified Revenue Cycle Rep (CRCR)

Required skills

• Working knowledge of Microsoft programs and familiarity with database programs
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology and hospital EMR systems
• Understanding of HIPAA and CMS guidelines
• Customer service and insurance benefits knowledge

Pay range: $17.57 - $28.12.
