Consumer Access Specialist

About the role

AdventHealth Polk is hiring a full-time Consumer Access Specialist in Columbus, North Carolina. The role covers patient registration, insurance verification, Medicare compliance and front-desk support, working day-shifts on weekends.

Key responsibilities

• Perform Medicare compliance reviews and issue Advance Beneficiary Notices of Noncoverage as needed
• Create patient financial responsibility estimates, collect payments or set up payment plans
• Coordinate with utilization management on pre-authorization and contact insurers to verify eligibility and benefits
• Register patients for services and collect demographic and insurance information
• Provide continuous coverage of assigned areas during shifts, arranging relief coverage as needed
• Bridge communication between clinical, ancillary and consumer access departments, and document patient and insurer conversations
• Provide switchboard coverage, including answering phones and transferring calls
• Handle cashiering, collections and cash reconciliation

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent (required); associate degree preferred
• 1+ year of customer service, healthcare or revenue cycle experience preferred
• Bilingual English/Spanish
• Experience in a customer service field and exceptional customer service skills
• Advanced understanding of insurance benefits and hospital EMR systems; intermediate medical terminology
• Preferred certifications: CHAA and CRCR

Required skills

• Working knowledge of Microsoft programs and familiarity with database programs
• Ability to operate office equipment such as computer, fax, printer and scanner
• Knowledge of CMS, EMTALA and HIPAA guidelines
