Consulting Utility Forester

About the role

ACRT, Inc. is looking for experienced professionals who enjoy working outdoors for its Consulting Utility Forester position in Rapid City, South Dakota. It suits both entry-level and seasoned professionals with a background in forestry, horticulture, arboriculture, environmental studies, conservation or related fields. The hourly pay range is $22.00 to $30.00, depending on location, experience, quality and quantity of work, performance and operational needs.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, inspect and evaluate trees and brush along utility lines
• Submit inspection results to clients with recommendations
• Plan, direct and coordinate the activities of assigned tree clearance crews
• Negotiate line-clearance crew access issues
• Serve as a liaison between clients, tree crews and customer customers

Required profile

• Two-year or four-year degree in Forestry, Biology, Natural Resources, Environmental Science or a related field, OR high school diploma/GED plus two years of UVM experience (the GED requirement can be waived with five years of related experience)
• ISA Certified Arborist certification preferred
• Vegetation management experience preferred
• Self-motivated, organized and production-oriented, able to work independently and manage a geographical area
• Able to work with stakeholders, utility customers and vendors, with strong verbal and written communication
• Comfortable in varied terrain and inclement weather, with flexible schedules including nights and weekends
• Able to sit for prolonged periods while driving or attending meetings and training
• Valid driver's license required

Required skills

• Competent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience with GIS-integrated data collection software/hardware preferred but not required
• Multi-tasking and strong time management
