Construction Inspector (Levels 1-4) – St. Landry

About the role

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks motivated Construction Inspectors to support District Project Engineers in St. Landry Parish. Inspectors will ensure construction work complies with departmental policies, standards, and project plans across a range of civil‑engineering specialties.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect concrete, asphalt, embankment, structural, and drainage work to verify compliance with specifications.
• Prepare and process field diaries, reports, and cost estimates.
• Enter, review, and maintain project data in DOTD systems such as MATT, Site Manager, and Content Manager.
• Apply DOTD engineering policies both in the office and on‑site.
• Serve as the primary inspector for assigned specialty areas.
• Determine material sampling requirements, verify material quantities, and survey elevations and alignments.
• Complete required training and assist other staff to ensure efficient project operations.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED, or at least six months experience in sub‑professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or equipment maintenance.
• Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and interpret unforeseen conditions.

• Starting hourly rates ranging from $14.98 to $22.47 depending on level, plus a $2.00/hour premium.
