Construction Inspector (Levels 1-4) – St. Landry

About the role

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is seeking motivated individuals to join its Construction Inspection team in St. Landry Parish. As a Construction Inspector you will support Professional Engineers and senior inspectors by performing on‑site inspections, contract administration, and documentation across a range of civil‑engineering projects.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect construction work to verify compliance with DOTD policies, specifications, and project plans.
• Prepare and process field diaries, inspection reports, and cost estimates.
• Enter, review, and maintain project data in DOTD systems such as MATT, Site Manager, and Content Manager.
• Apply engineering policies while working in the Project Engineer’s office and at construction sites.
• Serve as the primary inspector for assigned specializations (concrete, asphalt, embankment, drainage, etc.).
• Determine material sampling requirements, verify material quantities, and survey elevations and alignments.
• Complete required training and assist other staff to ensure efficient project operations.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED, or at least six months experience in sub‑professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or equipment maintenance.
• Self‑motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision and adapt to unforeseen field conditions.

• Hourly rates ranging from $14.98 to $22.47 depending on level, plus a $2.00/hour premium.
