Construction Inspector (Levels 1-4) – Lafayette Parish

About the role

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is seeking motivated Construction Inspectors to support Professional Engineers and senior inspectors in Lafayette Parish. You will perform construction inspections, contract administration, and specialized checks on concrete, asphalt, embankments, structural concrete, and subsurface drainage installations.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect construction work to ensure compliance with DOTD policies, standards, specifications, and project plans.
• Prepare and process field diaries, reports, estimates, and other construction documentation.
• Enter, review, and maintain project data in departmental systems such as MATT, Site Manager, and Content Manager.
• Apply DOTD engineering policies both in the Project Engineer’s office and on‑site.
• Serve as the primary inspector for assigned specializations or certifications.
• Determine material sampling requirements, verify material quantities, and conduct surveys of elevations and alignments.
• Complete required training and assist other staff to ensure efficient project operations.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED, OR at least six months of experience in sub‑professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.
• Self‑motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision and interpret unforeseen conditions.

What we offer

• Hourly rates ranging from $14.98 to $22.47 depending on level, plus a $2.00 premium per hour.
