Community Assistant

About the role

The Community Assistant is an entry‑level, live‑in staff member who supports the physical, emotional, social, and academic needs of first‑year residential students, helping them transition to college life and fostering a vibrant campus community.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct guidance and support to first‑year students, conducting regular one‑on‑one check‑ins.
• Respond promptly to student concerns and connect them with academic, medical, or mental‑health resources.
• Participate in an on‑call rotation to address incidents and emergencies, perform community walks, and write incident reports.
• Plan, coordinate, and implement diverse programs and activities that enhance the residential experience and promote cultural awareness.
• Monitor and enforce housing policies, address violations, and facilitate conflict resolution.
• Assist with day‑to‑day operations of Housing & Residential Life, including opening and closing processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree.
• 1‑2 years of student service or higher‑education experience in housing, residence life, or student affairs.
• Experience living with or working with high‑school or undergraduate students.
• Strong judgment, analytical skills, and ability to work under pressure and in crisis situations.
• Fluent English communication skills and availability for evenings, weekends, and on‑call rotation.

Required skills

• Proficiency with basic office technology and Microsoft 365.
