Communications Specialist – State Based Exchange

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking a Communications Specialist to support the Georgia Access For Business (GAFB) program. Working under the direction of the Director of Communications & Legislative Affairs, you will help shape internal and external messaging that promotes the agency’s initiatives and enhances its public image.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and distribute press releases, media advisories, newsletters and other communication materials after appropriate review.
• Create and maintain website and social‑media content to ensure consistent, on‑brand messaging.
• Assist in planning and executing communication strategies for programs, events and initiatives.
• Draft, edit and proofread content for print and digital platforms, including articles, reports and presentations.
• Support internal communications to keep employees informed and engaged.
• Collaborate with departmental staff to deliver cohesive campaign messages.
• Coordinate with management to ensure consistent messaging across all channels.
• Maintain relationships with community partners, stakeholders and media contacts.
• Provide support for crisis communication and reputation management when needed.
• Assist with event planning and outreach activities to increase organizational visibility.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Four (4) years of communications or related experience, or one (1) year of experience at the lower level Communications Spec 1 (GSP040) level.
• Ability to work under supervision and meet deadlines.
