Job description
About the role
Reality Defender is seeking a Communications Manager to lead day‑to‑day public relations, shaping how the market understands the deep‑fake threat while supporting broader communications across audiences.
Key responsibilities
- Own daily media relations: pitch stories, field reporter inquiries, and build a target list of journalists covering AI and cybersecurity.
- Write and distribute press releases, media pitches, briefing documents, bylines, talking points, and other press‑kit materials for product news, funding milestones, research findings, and company announcements.
- Secure and manage interviews, briefings, and speaking opportunities, preparing spokespeople with talking points and Q&A materials.
- Monitor the news cycle and respond quickly to reporter questions, including during breaking news.
- Track and report on media coverage, placements, and share of voice, flagging results and gaps.
- Submit for awards and speaking engagements, partnering with the C‑suite on positioning.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Product teams to stay current on company news, product launches, and milestones worth pitching.
- Maintain core communications assets: press kit, boilerplate, media contact database, and FAQs.
- Assist with internal communications and company‑wide announcements as needed.
Required profile
- 3+ years of experience in public relations, communications, or media relations, preferably in tech, cybersecurity, or a fast‑moving industry.
- Existing relationships with journalists and editors, or a proven track record of building them.
- Strong writer who can translate technical detail into compelling pitches for busy reporters.
- Organized, responsive, and able to manage multiple press conversations, projects, and deadlines.
- Calm under pressure and able to think on your feet when reporters reach out unexpectedly.
- Curious about technical details behind the products and eager to learn.
- Collaborative teammate who works well across Marketing, Product, and leadership.
What we offer
- Healthcare, dental, and vision plans with 100% premium coverage for employees (partial for dependents).
- Short/long‑term disability, life insurance, FSA/HSA, 401k, and equity compensation.
- 20 days PTO, 12 weeks parental leave, and a learning & development budget.
- Monthly wellness benefits, annual company‑sponsored offsite, and remote Fridays.
- For NYC‑based employees: daily in‑office lunch via UberEats, commuter benefits, happy hours, and other local events.
