Communications Director

About the role

The Communications Director will lead external communications, media relations, executive messaging, reputation management, and fundraising communications for O’Keefe Media Group. This role works closely with leadership, editorial, marketing, events, and donor development teams to turn investigations and impact into compelling narratives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute an integrated communications strategy aligned with editorial, organizational, and fundraising priorities.
• Increase visibility and credibility of OMG’s journalism through media coverage, interviews, and public appearances.
• Support fundraising campaigns with timely, persuasive donor communications, impact reports, and stewardship materials.
• Prepare leadership for public engagements, manage emerging risks, and coordinate crisis communications.
• Ensure cross‑functional alignment, timely project delivery, and continuous improvement of communications initiatives.

Required profile

• Five or more years of experience in communications, public relations, journalism, political or nonprofit communications.
• Exceptional writing, editing, presentation, and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to develop messaging for organizations, executives, or public figures.
• Strong understanding of media relations, news cycles, rapid response, and reputation management.
• Ability to manage competing deadlines, work outside regular hours when urgent needs arise, and exercise sound judgment and discretion.
