Commercial Property Claims Desk Adjuster (Remote After Training)

About the role

Sedgwick is hiring a Commercial Property Claims Desk Adjuster to handle losses and claims for commercial property insurers. The role works remotely after training, examining documents, records, loss reports and other documentation, and managing a case load efficiently using technology.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate insurance policies, claims forms, endorsements, carrier instructions and other records to determine coverage.
• Investigate claims thoroughly, gather official reports, consult police and hospital records, and inspect physical damage or written estimates to assess liability.
• Interview, telephone and correspond with claimants and witnesses, and estimate the cost of repair, replacement or compensation.
• Prepare reports of findings, negotiate settlements in line with carrier instructions, issue settlement checks, file regulatory documents and handle salvage and subrogation where applicable.
• Recommend litigation to the legal department when settlement cannot be reached, attend hearings and take part in depositions, and revise case reserves.
• Maintain an expected caseload efficiently, using technology and automation tools, and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
• Appropriate state adjuster license required; IIA-AIC designation must be obtained within 12 to 18 months.
• Three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Prior experience handling property and casualty claims is a plus but not required.

Required skills

• PC literacy, including Microsoft Office products.
• Strong communication, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Negotiation skills and ability to write comprehensive, accurate reports.
• Ability to work in a team and meet performance competencies.
