Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistant (Hybrid)

About the role

The Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistant supports MAPFRE's underwriting team by gathering, evaluating, and analyzing risk information for commercial insurance submissions. Working in a hybrid environment, the assistant reviews low‑hazard risks within delegated authority and collaborates with underwriters on more complex cases.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and assess risk data from applications, inspections, loss runs, credit reports, and internet research.
• Review and approve low‑hazard commercial risks within a formal letter of authority and assigned territory.
• Screen incoming underwriting requests, obtain missing information, and follow up with agents.
• Prepare quotes, new and renewal policies, endorsements, and cancellations in coordination with Services staff.
• Produce validation reports and other analytical summaries to support underwriting decisions.
• Maintain the “First‑in” log and assist with agency relationship management.

Required profile

• Knowledge of automated and manual underwriting and rating systems for commercial lines.
• Ability to analyze risk information and document underwriting decisions accurately.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with agents and internal teams.
• Detail‑oriented approach to ensure completeness of data and compliance with underwriting guidelines.
