Commercial Building Engineer

About the role

The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City Denver Branch is seeking an experienced Commercial Building Engineer/Senior Facilities Technician to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of building systems. This hands‑on role supports occupants, vendors, and internal teams while maintaining high performance and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot HVAC, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, air‑handling units, and Building Automation Systems.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical distribution, emergency power, lighting controls, plumbing, fire/life‑safety, and access control systems.
• Respond to emergencies, equipment alarms, power outages, water leaks, and other facility incidents.
• Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and service providers for specialized repairs and ensure compliance with safety and building codes.

Required profile

• At least 3 years of relevant experience in large commercial or institutional facilities.
• High school diploma or GED; valid driver’s license.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics.
• Strong troubleshooting logic and safety awareness.

Required skills

• HVAC systems, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, VFDs, hydronic systems.
• Building Automation Systems (BAS) and IWMS/work‑order management.
• Generators, UPS, switchgear, emergency power systems.
• Electrical distribution, lighting controls, fire/life‑safety systems.
• MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• EPA 608 certification (preferred).
