College Advisor – AdviseTX Hybrid Program

About the role

The AdviseTX Hybrid Program, in partnership with Texas A&M University‑San Antonio, College Advising Corps, and AmeriCorps, seeks motivated recent graduates to serve as College Advisors. Advisors work both on‑site and virtually in San Antonio high schools, helping students navigate college applications, financial aid, and scholarship searches.

Key responsibilities

• Provide personalized admissions and financial‑aid guidance to students and families.
• Assist students with completing applications and creating individualized college timelines.
• Utilize digital tools—including video conferencing, email, AI chatbots, and phone—to deliver tailored advising.
• Deliver college‑advising sessions in classrooms, assemblies, and one‑on‑one meetings.
• Develop and maintain an online presence (social media, website, blog) to communicate program information.
• Plan and coordinate events with community organizations and universities, including Decision Day.
• Record service data in the GRACE system and submit progress reports.
• Represent AmeriCorps, log service hours, and adhere to all AmeriCorps guidelines.

Required profile

• Recent college graduate (within the last 5 years) with a strong interest in higher‑education access.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships with school staff, families, and community partners.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
• Commitment to the mission of increasing college enrollment for under‑served students.

Required skills

• Proficiency with digital communication tools (video conferencing, email, texting).
• Experience using online platforms for data entry and reporting.
• Basic familiarity with AI chatbot interfaces.
