Coffee Shop Barista

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Coffee Shop Barista in its Springfield, IL coffee shop. You will be the friendly face customers see every morning, crafting beverages, keeping the coffee shop stocked and spotless, and making sure every customer leaves satisfied. The role is hourly and open to people with no prior experience, as training and support are provided.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers warmly, learn their names and go the extra mile to make every visit positive
• Take orders at the counter and over the phone, and help customers find products and answer questions
• Prepare and replenish coffee shop products, monitor freshness and appearance, and follow or develop a production list
• Handle food safely and keep the work area clean and neat to department standards
• Check in product, put it away, and review invoices as needed
• Run the department register and process payments where applicable
• Remove trash promptly and maintain a tidy department
• Work with teammates to ensure a smooth experience for every customer
• Follow the dress code, hygiene standards and company policies, and assist in other store areas and special projects as needed

Required profile

• No prior experience required; up to six months of similar or related experience preferred
• Less than a high school diploma or equivalent is accepted
• Able to follow written and verbal instructions, use basic math for simple addition, subtraction, counting and recording, and communicate clearly and helpfully
• Stays organized and keeps up with the pace of a busy coffee shop
• Physical demands include frequent standing and walking, repetitive standing, walking, reaching and bending, and exposure to heat and burn hazards; ability to use sharp knives and blades and to operate a delivery vehicle under DOT standards where applicable

What we offer

• Anticipated hourly starting wage of $15.00 to $18.75 depending on experience
• Training and support from the Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers, Food Service Director and Coffee Shop Department Manager
• Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment drug screen
