Coder II - Oncology

About the role

Central Georgia Cancer Care is hiring a Coder II to ensure that surgical and hospital claims processed through its EMR and Centricity systems are correct and compliant. The coder reviews medical records, assigns medical codes for procedures and diagnoses, and makes sure all billable charges are entered into the billing system.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure all surgical and hospital claims processed through EMR and Centricity are correct and compliant, with proper documentation on file.
• Make sure physicians in the assigned area follow dictations and documentation consistent with patient treatment.
• Ensure all assigned charts are coded and billed out daily.
• Assign medical codes for general surgery procedures for medical records and billing.
• Enter all billable charges into the billing system and work with the site to obtain required documentation for the review process.
• Escalate trends and documentation issues to the manager.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Five years of medical coding experience preferred; two years of ICD and Oncology CPT coding preferred.
• Experience in a healthcare field, clinical setting or business office.
• Excellent verbal and communication skills.
• Ability to stay current with annual CPT and ICD-9/ICD-10 updates.
• AAPC CPC or ROCC certification, preferably in oncology coding, strongly preferred; those without it must obtain it within one year of assignment.

Required skills

• Centricity experience preferred.
• Experience with operative report extraction and coding guidelines preferred.
