CNC Machinist (2nd Shift)

About the role

Impulse Space is hiring a CNC Machinist for its 2nd shift (approximately 1:30pm to 11:00pm) in Redondo Beach. You will set up, operate and program multi-axis CNC mills and lathes to manufacture complex aerospace components for spacecraft and rocket engine hardware. The position is full time.

Key responsibilities

• Set up, operate and program multi-axis CNC mills and lathes (up to 5-axis) to make complex aerospace components
• Perform precision inspections with metrology equipment to verify dimensions against drawings and tolerances
• Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, GD&T and other technical documents
• Manage cutting tools, keeping optimal tool load and measuring for upcoming programs
• Troubleshoot operational issues, including alarms and tooling repairs, to keep machines running
• Produce development and flight hardware in a production environment, meeting quick-turn goals
• Deburr and clean components on the machine, maintain a clean and safe workplace following 5S principles, and give feedback on process improvements
• Take part in weekly and monthly preventative maintenance and communicate production challenges to shop leadership

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 5+ years of CNC machining experience, especially in aerospace machine shops and hard metals
• Available to work all shifts, including overtime and weekends as needed
• Able to lift up to 35 lbs unassisted, stand for 8+ hours, and work in tight spaces
• U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, protected individual status, or eligibility for the required authorizations under ITAR

Required skills

• Demonstrated G-code proficiency and strong setup and operation skills on CNC mills and lathes
• Ability to read complex blueprints, GD&T and tolerances
• Preferred: experience with Inconel, titanium, stainless steel, copper and aluminum; 3+ years on vertical mills and 1+ year on 5-axis mills
• Preferred: CAM software such as NX, Solidworks HSM, Mastercam, Fusion 360 or Esprit CAD/CAM
• Preferred: multiple CNC controls such as Heidenhain, Haas, Fanuc and Siemens
