CNC Field Service Technician

About the role

Robert E. Morris, one of the largest machine tool distribution networks in North America, is looking for a CNC Field Service Technician in its Customer Support Department in Hartford, CT. The technician installs, maintains, diagnoses and repairs CNC lathes, milling machines and multi-functional machining centers at customer sites, and acts as a direct link between customers and the service group.

Key responsibilities

• Travel daily to customer facilities, with occasional overnight stays for remote locations or remote training
• Install, commission, calibrate, maintain, diagnose and repair CNC equipment and accessories, including operator training, preventive maintenance, overhauls, upgrades and retrofits
• Diagnose and fix electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical issues using schematics, PLC ladder diagrams and testing equipment
• Provide customer feedback and build brand loyalty through service relationships
• Work safely in manufacturing environments and use machine tool manuals and technical documents
• Use the Salesforce Lightning Customer Support system

Required profile

• Willingness to learn mechanical drawings, schematics and PLC diagrams on the job and in the classroom
• Electro-mechanical skills, or willingness to be trained to develop them
• Basic digital literacy with MS Word, Excel and Outlook
• Shop background or knowledge of machine tool manufacture, installation, operation, maintenance and repair is a plus
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs with assistance, work in tight spaces and wear PPE in industrial settings

Required skills

• Understanding of mechanical drawings, electrical/pneumatic/hydraulic schematics and PLC ladder diagrams
• Problem-solving, rational decision-making and communication skills
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook
