Clinical/Medical Lab Scientist or Technician – Chemistry

About the role

This position is responsible for receiving and preparing specimens, performing laboratory tests and calculations, and providing data for diagnosis and treatment. The role includes quality control, equipment calibration, and phlebotomy as needed while maintaining patient confidentiality.

Key responsibilities

• Perform, develop, and interpret routine and specialized laboratory tests independently within established time frames.
• Conduct quality control, instrument maintenance, and troubleshooting, escalating out‑of‑control results and documenting corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, safety guidelines, and proficiency testing protocols.
• Participate in performance‑improvement initiatives, manage supply and reagent inventory, and support cost‑reduction efforts.
• Adapt communication and procedures to respect patient privacy and specific patient populations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or a related scientific field (transcript required).
• Current Clinical Lab Scientist license (or trainee permit/Lab Assistant license) with requirement to obtain full license within 90 days of hire.
• ASCP, AMT, or AAB certification required within 90 days of hire, with specific discipline certification for Academic Medical Center facilities.
• Proficient computer skills for data entry and retrieval, including Windows‑based applications.
• Effective verbal and written communication, analytical problem‑solving, and sound judgement.
