Clinical Technician – Surgical Short Stay

About the role

The Clinical Technician works in the M81 Surgical Short Stay Unit at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, providing direct patient care during the evening shift (3:00 pm‑11:30 pm) and every other Saturday. The role supports a diverse range of surgical specialties and contributes to efficient patient discharge and high‑quality care.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients with vital signs, weight, personal care, activities of daily living, and patient transfers/transport.
• Perform point‑of‑care testing, pulse oximetry, dressing changes, apply external monitoring devices, and remove urinary Foley catheters.
• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, or emotional condition to the supervising RN.
• Maintain clean and orderly patient rooms.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or Red Cross) obtained within the new‑hire period.
• At least one year of recent, full‑time patient care experience (or equivalent military medical experience).
• Ability to perform medium physical work, including lifting and moving patients.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Proficiency in point‑of‑care testing and pulse oximetry.
• Competence in dressing changes and use of external monitoring devices.
