Clinical Technician – Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU)

About the role

The Clinical Technician works in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, providing direct patient care under RN supervision. The position follows a day/night rotation schedule and includes weekend and holiday duties.

Key responsibilities

• Take vital signs, weight, and assist patients with personal care.
• Perform point‑of‑care testing, dressing changes, and patient transfers/transport.
• Apply external monitoring devices and conduct technical tasks such as phlebotomy, 12‑lead ECGs, and removal of urinary Foley catheters.
• Report abnormal findings or changes in patient condition to the RN and help keep patient rooms clean and orderly.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• One year of recent full‑time patient care experience, or equivalent nursing student clinical rotation, military medical experience, or related training.
• Ability to read and perform basic mathematics at an 8th‑grade level.

Required skills

• Point‑of‑care testing.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
