Clinical Pharmacy Specialist – Oncology

About the role

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist – Oncology will act as the pharmacy representative for oncology care, ensuring safe and effective medication use across the department. This position oversees policy compliance, formulary management, and provides education to staff and learners while supporting regulatory audit readiness.

Key responsibilities

• Review and interpret medication orders, ensuring appropriate drug, dose, route, and frequency.
• Manage formulary development, guidelines, and protocols for oncology therapeutics.
• Oversee medication packaging, labeling, distribution, and automated dispensing machines.
• Conduct unit inspections and verify accreditation readiness.
• Perform drug therapy monitoring, therapeutic drug monitoring consults, and adverse reaction reporting.
• Document interventions in patient charts and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Assist nursing and other providers with medication‑related questions.
• Participate in medication reconciliation and ensure complete medication histories.

Required profile

• Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree.
• At least 2 years of pharmacy experience in a pediatric, specialized, academic, or clinical setting (6 years if no PGY2 residency).
• Eligible for pharmacist licensure in the District of Columbia (and possibly Maryland or Virginia).
• Board Certified Pharmacist (BPS) in the relevant specialty.

Required skills

• Proficiency with pharmacy computer systems.
• Experience using automated dispensing machines.
• Therapeutic drug monitoring expertise.
