Clinical Laboratory Assistant II – UHealth Labs

About the role

The UHealth Laboratories Department at the University of Miami is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Assistant II to support routine operations in both clinical and research labs. This onsite position involves handling patient specimens, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring smooth laboratory workflow.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, accession, and transport patient samples for testing.
• Process specimens through centrifugation, aliquoting, and volume measurement.
• Maintain laboratory logs, files, and inventory levels according to protocol.
• Generate and forward patient reports to appropriate physicians or departments.
• Respond to inquiries from reference labs, physicians, and unit personnel regarding specimen requirements.
• Serve as lead or backup when the supervisor is unavailable.
• Uphold confidentiality of patient information and adhere to university policies.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience.
• Minimum two years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
• Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and adapt to changing priorities.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
