Clinical Educator – Sterile Processing (CSPD)

About the role

The University of Miami seeks a Clinical Educator to lead education and training for the Central Sterile Processing Department (CSPD). Reporting to the Executive Director, the educator will develop and deliver programs that ensure staff competency and compliance with regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and evaluate educational programs for CSPD and related procedural areas.
• Provide comprehensive orientation, in‑service training, and competency assessments for sterile processing staff.
• Maintain education records in line with AORN, AAMI, Joint Commission, CMS, CDC, OSHA, and FDA requirements.
• Conduct quarterly audits of employee records and oversee quality and infection‑control initiatives.
• Coordinate evaluations of new products and equipment, and represent Central Service on interdisciplinary committees.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Minimum five years of progressive experience in central sterile processing or operating rooms.
• Strong written, verbal, and organizational communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with medical, patient‑care, infection‑control, and interdepartmental teams.

Required skills

• Computer proficiency.
• Knowledge of surgical instruments and operating‑room workflows.
• Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or equivalent.
• Certified Surgical Technician (CST).
• Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS).
• Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL).
• Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER).
