Classification & Compensation Specialist

About the role

The Classification & Compensation Specialist supports the Engineering People Office by leading staff classification and compensation initiatives for Texas A&M College of Engineering and the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station. This role ensures accurate position analyses, compliance with policies, and competitive compensation practices to attract and retain top talent.

Key responsibilities

• Lead complex salary surveys, market analyses, and compensation research to recommend titles and salary ranges.
• Conduct advanced job audits and classification reviews, document findings, and present recommendations to leadership.
• Oversee classification and compensation requests, including new positions, salary adjustments, promotions, and transfers.
• Interpret and apply Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines for accurate classification decisions.
• Evaluate and approve job postings to ensure consistency in qualifications, salary ranges, and compliance.
• Contribute to HR reporting and data analysis to support decision‑making and transparency.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of classification and compensation principles.
• Experience conducting salary surveys and market analyses.
• Ability to interpret FLSA regulations and apply them to job classifications.
• Excellent analytical and documentation skills.
• Effective communication skills for presenting recommendations to leadership.
