Civil Engineer – Senior or Assistant Level

About the role

The Town of Bethlehem Department of Public Works is looking for a qualified civil engineer, either at the senior or assistant level, to lead and support municipal capital projects from design through construction.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and administer town capital projects, overseeing design, permitting, and construction phases.
• Review plans, reports and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) for Planning Board applications.
• Evaluate grading plans for building permits and conduct grading inspections.
• Prepare drawings, specifications and cost estimates for infrastructure projects.
• Review and supervise the work of engineering consultants.

Required profile

• For Assistant Engineer: Master’s in Civil Engineering with 3 years experience (or equivalent Bachelor’s/Associate degree with additional years as specified).
• For Senior Engineer: Professional Engineering license in New York State with 4 years post‑license experience, or 12 years total engineering experience.
• Demonstrated experience in design of construction projects and construction administration.
