Chief of Staff to the CEO
evidence-action · Washington
Job description
About the role
Evidence Action is a global health organization delivering data-driven interventions across 11 countries, with programs such as Deworm the World and Safe Water Now. It is refreshing its organization-wide strategy and is hiring a Chief of Staff to support the CEO in moving toward a leverage model that scales proven interventions through government systems and payers-at-scale. The role is hybrid, ideally based in Washington, DC, and suits someone who builds operating systems that last beyond their tenure.
Key responsibilities
- Own board meeting preparation end to end (agenda, materials, follow-up) and partner with the CEO on sequencing board topics and framing the strategic narrative
- Manage the Global Leadership Team meetings, including designing semiannual in-person convenings, so they produce decisions and follow-through
- Turn the CEO's priorities into owned, dated commitments across a global senior team and maintain a map of decision rights across regions and globally
- Synthesize information on organizational health, risks and opportunities, and act as an independent thought partner to the CEO
- Support the strategy refresh change management and build a standing progress dashboard
- Run the strategy cadence: quarterly business reviews, annual OKR development, quarterly tracking and KPI reporting, and an annual refresh process
- Lead the Strategic Initiatives team, including quality control on analytical frameworks, and oversee executive and internal communications
Required profile
- 7 to 12 years of experience, including management consulting (MBB, Bridgespan, Dalberg) or an equivalent background in structured problem-solving, plus exposure to international development or global health
- Track record of autonomy and of influencing senior people outside your direct line
- Experience building operational systems that outlast their author, such as KPI tracking and review cadences
- Fluency with AI tools and comfort working across regions and time zones; experience in sub-Saharan Africa or India is an advantage
- Willingness to travel periodically, including to meet the CEO in California and for semiannual convenings
What we offer
- Expected pay range of $125,000 - $165,000 per year for the US position
- International health care, HSA/FSA options, life insurance and disability coverage
- Retirement plans with a matching component and flexible leave options
