About the role

The Counter‑Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) is seeking a senior professional to lead its Africa Section on Legal Affairs. Reporting directly to the Deputy Executive Director (D‑2) and under the overall supervision of the Executive Director, the Chief of Section will shape strategic guidance for the implementation of key Security Council resolutions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic vision, policy guidance and procedural advice on the implementation of Security Council resolutions 1373, 1624, 2178, 2396, 2462, 2482, 2617, 2810 and related decisions.
• Plan, coordinate and oversee the Section’s work programmes, ensuring timely delivery of analysis, stock‑taking documents and assessment reports.
• Lead and participate in Counter‑Terrorism Committee assessment visits to Member States, reviewing compliance and identifying capacity‑building needs.
• Supervise the preparation of draft assessment reports and propose technical solutions to resolve compliance issues.
• Manage follow‑up activities with Member States, UN bodies and technical assistance providers to facilitate implementation of recommendations.
• Contribute to reporting to the Security Council and the Counter‑Terrorism Committee on counter‑terrorism issues.

Required profile

• Senior professional reporting to the Deputy Executive Director, CTED.
• Extensive experience in legal affairs related to counter‑terrorism and UN resolutions.
• Proven ability to manage and supervise multidisciplinary teams.
