Chief Business Official

About the role

Knightsen Elementary School District is seeking an experienced school business professional to serve as its Chief Business Official. Reporting to the Superintendent, the CBO will lead the district’s business and fiscal operations, overseeing budgeting, finance, facilities, transportation and nutrition services.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, monitor and manage the district’s annual budget and financial forecasts.
• Oversee accounting, payroll, accounts payable and purchasing functions.
• Manage risk, insurance and compliance with California public school regulations.
• Lead facilities planning, construction projects and transportation services.
• Supervise nutrition services and ensure contract compliance.
• Collaborate closely with the Superintendent, Board of Trustees, administrators and staff.
• Provide financial reporting, internal controls and audit coordination.
• Supervise, support and develop business office staff.

Required profile

• Progressively responsible experience in school business, finance or related administrative operations.
• Demonstrated knowledge of California public school business practices and applicable laws.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with accuracy.
• Experience supervising and developing business office personnel.
• Willingness to be a hands‑on leader, working both strategically and day‑to‑day in a small district.
