Chemical Plant Operator - Wyandotte, MI

About the role

BASF is hiring a Chemical Plant Operator for its Wyandotte Polyol Plant in Wyandotte, Michigan, within the Performance Materials division. The operator is responsible for personal safety, product quality and the operation of reactors, filling, loading and unloading systems and their auxiliary and utility equipment, working a 12-hour rotating shift.

Key responsibilities

• Operate DCS and PLS systems and environmental control systems such as ponds, scrubbers and thermal oxidizers
• Read, record and interpret data from reactors, tanks, pumps and other equipment, making corrective adjustments to keep production efficient
• Perform maintenance such as purges, washes, dries and recharges, and carry out visual inspections of equipment
• Follow verbal and written instructions from the Shift Supervisor, standard procedures, batch sheets and loading sheets to run reactors and filling/loading systems
• Help with miscellaneous duties including painting, cleanouts and assisting the plant during outages

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED
• 6 months of experience in a manufacturing or production environment
• Able to maintain facial hair to comply with the site respirator policy
• Able to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
• Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders and stairs and lift up to 50 lbs. for long periods, with reasonable accommodation if needed
• Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
