Charge Nurse – Operating Room (Days)

About the role

The Charge Nurse for the Operating Room (Days) leads perioperative staff, ensures regulatory compliance, and coordinates patient flow during day shifts. This role provides clinical leadership, supports surgeons and anesthesia teams, and steps in as a circulator RN when needed.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as primary communication liaison for perioperative services and collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and ancillary departments.
• Coordinate daily surgical schedule, room assignments, and staffing based on patient acuity and case complexity.
• Monitor surgical progress, adjust staffing, and manage emergency or add‑on procedures.
• Ensure availability of equipment, supplies, implants, and instrumentation for each case.
• Provide coaching, mentorship, and emergency clinical support during intra‑operative events.
• Maintain accurate documentation and support accreditation readiness and survey preparation.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred.
• Current Texas RN license, BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
• Minimum 3–5 years operating room experience and at least 2 years circulating experience.
• Leadership or charge nurse experience preferred; CNOR certification and AORN membership encouraged.
