Certified Surgical Procedural Coding Specialist

About the role

The Certified Procedural Coding Specialist – Surgical works remotely under supervision, reviewing health record documentation to assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes.

Key responsibilities

• Assess health record documentation to ensure it supports all diagnoses and procedures.
• Apply knowledge of anatomy, disease processes, and surgical procedures to assign CPT and ICD-10 codes.
• Select principal diagnosis and procedures using UHDDS definitions and confirm DRGs/APCs.
• Assist patient billing services to submit clean claims for medical necessity.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED plus at least 2 years of coding experience.
• Understanding of CPT and ICD-10 coding systems.
• One of the following certifications: CCA, CCS, CPC, RHIT, or RHIA.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in health information management.
