Certified Procedural Coding Specialist

About the role

The Certified Procedural Coding Specialist works remotely under supervision to read and interpret health record documentation for outpatient encounters, ensuring accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Assess health record documentation to verify it supports all assigned codes.
• Apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, and procedural terminology to assign accurate CPT and ICD-10 codes.
• Maintain up‑to‑date understanding of ICD‑10 and CPT classification systems.
• Enter charge data into hospital and physician accounting systems for outpatient visits.
• Prioritize and manage daily work queues to ensure timely completion of coding tasks.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Understanding of CPT and ICD‑10 coding systems.
• One of the following certifications: CCA, CCS, CPC, RHIT, or RHIA.
• Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management.
• Preferred: Minimum two years of coding experience.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CPT coding.
• Proficiency with ICD‑10 coding.
