Certified Procedural Coding Specialist

About the role

The Certified Procedural Coding Specialist reads and interprets health record documentation to identify diagnoses and procedures for outpatient encounters. This is a remote position supporting the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

Key responsibilities

• Assess health record documentation to ensure it supports all diagnoses and procedures.
• Apply anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, and terminology knowledge to assign accurate CPT and ICD‑10 codes.
• Maintain up‑to‑date understanding of ICD‑10 and CPT classification systems.
• Enter charge data into hospital and physician accounting systems for outpatient visits.
• Prioritize and manage work queues daily.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED.
• One of the following certifications: CCA, CCS, CPC, RHIT, or RHIA.
• Understanding of CPT and ICD‑10 coding.
• Two years of coding experience.
• Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management.
