Certified Pharmacy Technician

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Certified Pharmacy Technician for its pharmacy in Madison. The role supports pharmacists in the preparation and distribution of prescription medications with accuracy, professionalism and care, covering prescription processing, insurance billing, customer service and inventory. It is an hourly position.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers, answer simple inquiries and handle prescription orders and refill requests at the discretion of the supervising pharmacist
• Gather patient information, prepare and label prescriptions, and file dispensed prescriptions
• Submit insurance claims and help with third-party billing and troubleshooting
• Order, receive and stock pharmacy supplies and log invoices
• Process cash transactions accurately
• Administer vaccines where legally allowed and certified, and maintain vaccine storage areas
• Maintain the cleanliness of the pharmacy, keep patient information confidential under HIPAA, and follow all pharmacy statutes and regulations
• Help in other store areas as needed and take on special projects

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Certification as a licensed technician through a certified national program, with continuing education kept up to date
• Vaccination certification required if administering vaccines
• Previous experience as a pharmacy technician or pharmacy clerk preferred
• Ability to stand and walk frequently, handle repetitive tasks, and work around exposure to bloodborne pathogens and sharps

Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment drug screen. The role is fast-paced and involves occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals or solvents during compounding, so safety training is provided.
