Certified Oncology Data Specialist

About the role

AdventHealth is hiring a full-time, day-shift Certified Oncology Data Specialist in Daytona Beach, Florida. The role identifies and escalates clinical variability or documentation discrepancies from national guidelines to leadership, tracks cancer patients through the care continuum and helps meet regulatory deadlines.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and escalate clinical variability or documentation discrepancies from national guidelines to leadership for timely intervention.
• Use critical thinking and independent judgment to categorize data elements and outcomes when clinical information conflicts.
• Track cancer patients longitudinally at required intervals to maintain follow-up and meet regulatory deadlines.
• Obtain follow-up information by phone, physician offices and written communication.
• Maintain a professional work environment and complete independent validation of abstraction before registry submission.

Required profile

• Associate degree, in Healthcare or Health Information Management.
• Completion of the education program and/or work experience required for Certified Tumor Registrar, as defined by the National Cancer Registrars' Association.
• 2+ years of cancer registry abstraction experience.
• Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of complex medical conditions and surgical procedures to judge the appropriateness of cancer care.
• Ability to make independent decisions on internal and external clinical variables in line with national cancer guidelines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.
• Ability to coordinate multiple priorities to meet registry submission deadlines.
• Effective communication with leadership, team members, physicians and patients.

Pay range: $23.94 - $44.53. Positions are subject to Florida Level 2 background screening, including fingerprinting. The employer is an equal opportunity employer.
