Certified Nurse Anesthetist – Bascom Palmer Eye Institute

About the role

The University of Miami UHealth is seeking a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist to join the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute team. The incumbent will prepare and administer anesthetic solutions, collaborate with physicians, and ensure patient safety throughout surgical procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Perform pre‑ and post‑anesthesia patient visits and document anesthesia notes.
• Review medical histories, evaluate patients, and determine appropriate anesthesia methods.
• Interpret diagnostic tests such as radiographs and electrocardiograms.
• Measure, monitor, and adjust the level and speed of anesthesia delivery.
• Continuously monitor vital signs, including skin color, pupil dilation, pulse, heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, ventilation, and urine output.
• Communicate patient status to physicians during anesthesia.
• Manage airway and pulmonary status using techniques like endotracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation, pharmacological support, respiratory therapy, and extubation.
• Oversee patient recovery and provide immediate post‑operative care.
• Prepare and administer local, intravenous, spinal, or other anesthetics following established protocols.
• Respond to emergencies with airway management, fluid/drug administration, and basic or advanced life support.
• Develop individualized anesthesia care plans and adhere to university policies.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in a relevant nursing field.
• Certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).
• Minimum of 2 years clinical experience preferred; new graduates with relevant experience will be considered.
• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Demonstrated problem‑solving and critical‑decision skills.
