Certified Clinical Nurse Specialist – Cardiovascular ICU

About the role

The Cleveland Clinic Health System seeks a nationally certified Advanced Practice Provider to deliver primary and specialty care in the Cardiovascular ICU. The CNS will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, promote evidence‑based practice, and support nursing staff in delivering high‑quality, safe patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert consultation and direct/indirect nursing care to high‑risk cardiovascular patients and families.
• Round with patients, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams, monitoring practices and analyzing data for trends.
• Write APRN progress notes, bill for services, and prescribe medications, therapies, and devices as appropriate.
• Lead and participate in quality‑improvement projects, accreditation activities, and committee work.
• Develop and deliver educational programs, “just‑in‑time” teaching, and advanced specialty classes for staff.
• Conduct nursing research, write policies/protocols, and present findings at conferences or in peer‑reviewed journals.

Required profile

• Current RN and Advanced Practice Nurse licensure in the applicable state(s).
• National certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.
• MSN degree required upon hire (or within three years for external hires).
• At least 1 year of ICU experience, preferably in cardiovascular care.
• Strong analytical, decision‑making, written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification, if applicable.
• Prescribing authority for medications, therapies, and medical devices.
• Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
