CDL Driver - Chemical Distribution

About the role

Brenntag is looking for a skilled, safety-focused CDL driver to support the daily operations of chemical distribution in Des Moines. The role involves safely and efficiently operating Class 8 tractors and related equipment to transport hazardous and non-hazardous materials, including liquid and dry products. Reliable schedules, regular home time and late-model, well-maintained trucks are offered.

Key responsibilities

• Drive a power unit (Class 8 tractor and lower) for chemical distribution, moving materials to customers, vendors, within plants and between branches.
• Perform bulk deliveries of liquids and solids, including loading and offloading with pumps and air, and packaged deliveries in drums, IBCs, pallets and supersacks.
• Manage the full process: transport, transfer, delivery, securement and paperwork.
• Comply with DOT, OSHA and site rules, including placarding, pre-inspection, daily logs and reporting repairs.
• Care for assigned equipment, including ELDs, virtual gateways, cameras and tracking units, and keep it clean and in good working order.
• Stay in contact with the supervisor or dispatcher for delivery instructions.

Required profile

• High school diploma, GED or US military experience; prior chemical delivery experience may be considered.
• Class A CDL with Tanker, Bulk and/or Hazmat endorsement, current DOT medical card, and TWIC card or proof of application if required.
• Ability to drive a manual transmission; preferred: 1 year liquid bulk experience or 3 years commercial truck driving, and certification from an accredited commercial driving academy.
• Willingness to work overtime or weekends, live within 60 miles of the area, and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check and E-verify.
• Physical ability to lift up to 75 pounds, push or pull up to 150 pounds, climb ladders, wear a respirator and load hazardous material.

Required skills

• Certification to operate electric or manual pallet jacks; forklift certification if required by the location.
• Ability to operate dock locks, dock levelers and other delivery equipment.
• Basic math and reading comprehension in English, and ability to use devices such as smartphones, tablets and Samsara.
