Category Manager - Indirect Materials or Services

About the role

Gerdau, a global steel producer with mini-mills supplying the automotive, appliance, construction and machinery industries, is hiring a Category Manager for indirect materials or services in Cartersville, Georgia. You will coordinate and manage the strategic procurement process for assigned categories so that Internal Industrial Services are acquired cost-effectively for Gerdau North America. You report directly to the Manager, Commodities, and Service Corp.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and run procurement strategies, bid processes and negotiations, and manage supplier selection and contract management for assigned categories
• Analyze category market attributes such as number of suppliers, competitiveness, logistics, technology, criticality and alternatives
• Gather and maintain supplier and market intelligence to support negotiation planning and reduce supply chain risk
• Negotiate supply agreements, manage Requests for Quotations and Requests for Proposals, and run competitive bidding
• Ensure contracts are accurately initiated and maintained, including price, specifications, lead time and Incoterms
• Evaluate and develop suppliers, and work with stakeholders to lower the total cost of ownership
• Facilitate cross-functional teams between procurement and operations, and help implement inventory policies for assigned categories
• Assist in developing procurement policies and train staff on processes and procedures

Required profile

• Four-year degree in Engineering or Business Administration
• 3-5 years of procurement experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
• Experience in project management, strategic planning, performance management, contract negotiations and cross-functional teams
• Experience in global sourcing initiatives and leading cross-functional teams
• Ability to travel up to 15% of the time
• Legal eligibility to work in the country of hire without sponsorship

Required skills

• SAP knowledge is required
• Working knowledge of the contemporary procurement process
• MS Office Suite
• Professional certification in Procurement or Supply Chain Management preferred
