Cashier - Wall to Wall Wine and Spirits

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Wall to Wall Wine and Spirits Cashier in its general department. The cashier is the friendly, knowledgeable face at the point of purchase, educating customers about wine, spirits and beer products, keeping the department stocked and well presented, and making sure every transaction is smooth. The role is hourly and reports to the General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Wine Specialist, Spirits Specialist or Beer Specialist.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers warmly, learn their names and make every interaction positive
• Educate customers about wine, spirits and beer products and help them find the right selection
• Process all customer transactions accurately at the point of sale
• Rotate, face and replenish merchandise and maintain displays, building new ones as needed
• Check in product, put product away and review invoices as needed
• Follow local, state and company policies on the sale of alcohol
• Assist with inventory and order product at the supervisor's request
• Keep the work area clean and sanitary, remove trash promptly and answer the telephone
• Work as a team, assist in other parts of the store and take on special projects as assigned
• Follow Hy-Vee policies, dress standards and hygiene rules, and report to work on time

Required profile

• No education requirement; six months to one year of similar or related work experience preferred
• At least 21 years of age
• Able to stand and walk frequently during a shift, and to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching and bending
• Ability to safely use sharp knives and blades where applicable, and to operate a delivery vehicle in line with DOT standards where applicable
• Exposure to heat, burn hazards, cleaning solvents and temperature extremes is possible

Required skills

• Simple addition and subtraction, copying figures and counting and recording accurately
• Following written or verbal instructions and communicating supply needs
• Working effectively in a fast-paced team environment
