Career Development Specialist

About the role

The International Rescue Committee seeks a dedicated Career Development Specialist to empower refugees and immigrants in Virginia. You will guide participants through personalized career pathways, helping them transition from low‑wage jobs to sustainable, well‑paid careers.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct pre‑enrollment assessments and develop individualized career plans.
• Provide one‑on‑one coaching on resume writing, job search strategies, and interview preparation.
• Deliver group workshops on work‑readiness and employability skills.
• Assist participants in enrolling in vocational training, certifications, apprenticeships, and paid or unpaid work experiences.
• Support networking efforts, review job applications, and accompany clients to interviews and site tours.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure strength‑based, coordinated services for clients.
• Advocate for participants’ rights and address barriers to program completion.

Required profile

• Solutions‑driven, passionate about creating positive change.
• Flexible, patient, and determined to support clients with diverse needs.
• Experience in case management, career counseling, or related fields, preferably with refugee or immigrant populations.
