Car Processing Operator

About the role

Sims Metal, a global leader in metal recycling, is seeking a Car Processing Operator to join its production team. The role involves handling incoming vehicle materials, operating equipment safely, and supporting the recycling process in a fast‑paced plant environment.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect and sort materials by type, size, condition, and markings.
• Operate safety equipment and follow safe work habits.
• Run machinery used in the production process or assist equipment operators.
• Load and unload items from machines, conveyors, and other conveyances.
• Move reusable materials to production or storage areas.
• Separate metal particles from waste and remove waste from conveyors.
• Perform cleaning duties such as sweeping and shoveling residual waste.
• Assist with additional tasks as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum one year of experience in a heavy‑industrial setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 100 lb occasionally.
• Good vision (close, distance, peripheral, depth perception).
• Ability to work both shifts.
