Business Taxes Specialist II – Technical Advisor

About the role

The Business Taxes Specialist II (Technical Advisor) works under the Assistant Deputy Director for Audit in the Field Operations Division of the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration. This position provides expert guidance on audit policies, procedures, and the Centralized Revenue Opportunity System (CROS) to improve the effectiveness of the state’s tax audit program.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate the audit program’s performance and identify operational issues.
• Recommend and help implement improvements to policies, procedures, and training.
• Assist in the development and enhancement of audit information systems, including CROS.
• Support statewide audit initiatives and collaborate with other divisions as needed.

Required profile

• Experience in tax audit or related government auditing functions.
• Strong analytical abilities to assess program effectiveness.
• Ability to develop clear policy recommendations and training materials.
